A Message from our Charity of the Year Partner 2024/25
Hello from Canley Food Hub, a community based social supermarket in CV4. Our mission is to help feed people living in CV4 and CV5. Canley Food Hub is a part of the Coventry Food Network, so across the city, we are one of sixteen places helping to feed local people.
We open every Friday, between 12 and 1pm, and are located in Canley Community Centre (which is on Prior Deram Walk). The Food Hub is led by the Community Centre Manager, Anna-Marie Corbett, and Food Hub Coordinator, Julie Hughes.
We have the most amazing team of 30 volunteers who – week in, week out – help us set up and run the Food Hub, helping run smoothly and look professional! We help feed over one hundred households, that’s over 250 individual people, every single week throughout the year.
We purchase food from various places, including FareShare, whose goal is to help reduce food waste and get it where it is needed, and well known Supermarkets. We also get regular donations from Aubrey Allen, Aldi, Franklin and Hawkins Funeral Directors, and other generous people.
We are very excited to be the Lower Precinct’s Charity of the Year and to be able to showcase the wonderful work that each of these Food Hubs/Social Supermarkets do across the city, in particular, in our own community in Canley – and in CV4 and CV5.
It’s not just feeding that we do but enabling our communities to improve and develop with many other things that also happen there. Canley Food Hub is able to signpost our members to access the necessary advice, support and guidance that they need, led by people who make it their mission to keep supporting and improving the lives of others. We partner with other local organisations and charities to ensure that this happens at the point of need.
